Saugatuck 2013

We hadn't been to Saugatuck on the west side of the state, but had always wanted to go. It was amazing! We had a great little cabin nestled in the woods. It wasn't on the water, but that was OK. It was new, clean and had everything we needed for a pit stop. The beaches were STUNNING! I took photos with my iPhone, so really didn't capture but a few moments on my camera here. You could climb up sand dunes and run down them in giant steps toward the water. The sand was like powder.

When we first arrived, we went straight to the beach at 7 p.m. It was a hazy 80 degrees and the sun was beginning to set. We had the beach all to ourselves and could have stayed there all night. The sand was warm, the air was perfect, and Lake Michigan was gorgeous... until we decided to jump in. Whoa! It was fa-fa-fa-freezing! It had been a cold June - and we were just at the tail end of the month - so the water might have been 60 degrees during the day. Thing is, you go numb after a while, so you get used to the cold. And that we did.

What else? We ate very very well. We met up with our friends Tom and Brenda and exposed them to what lunch out with kids was like. We kept seeing a guy with purple hair everywhere. I said to John, that guy's probably an old rock star who lives in Chicago and has a place here. Sure enough when we saw his Lambo with the vanity plate that translated to Eye of the Tiger, we knew we were on to something! We took a picture of him walking toward his car as he was leaving the restaurant we were both eating at (this kept happening) and sent it off to our musician pals in Chicago - Kevin and Kerri. Sure enough, they confirmed it was their pal Jim who was in Survivor and had penned the song imprinted on his license plate.

What can we say, he has great taste! We hope to go back as often as possible. It's a beautiful little town! Come with us!
